My favorite colors are gold, green, blue, red, and silver in that order. A flasher is designed with a reflective surface to attract fish from a great distance away. Haw far no one really knows. The flasher should be trolled fast enough to make the flasher do a 360 degree roll. There are different kinds of flashers Fish Flash, Cone Zone, Hot Spot, Silver Horde and AB &Al. All of these flashers are designed to do a 360 degree roll. If it’s not rolling you’re trolling to slow. With the AB & Al and Silver Horde you can see if the flasher is rolling on your rod tip. It will have a slow rhythmic pumping action. If it comes off the roll the pumping will speed up and lose the rhythm. If your fishing AB & Als or silver Hordes for the first time start off fishing them shallow right by the boat so you can watch them roll and watch the rod tip. Slow down to make the flasher come off the roll to see the difference on the rod. Hot Spots, Fish Flash and Cone Zones will all roll trolling  very slow. Speed varies a lot from person to person. If you find a speed that is working for you don’t change it. I troll from 1 to 4 knots. Depending on what kind of bait and flasher I'm fishing.

Hoochies come in hundreds of colors shapes are sizes. I like to fish 4 to 6 inch hoochie  green with glow in the dark is one of my favorites for king salmon but greens, blues, pinks and whites are all good. You can start with these colors and then play with your own colors. Leader length is very important I like my hoochie to make a 4 to 6 inch roll in the water. I run a 35 inch leader to achieve with a hot spot flasher. If I’m going to troll (faster 2.5 to 4 knots) I may run a 50 inch leader. A lot of the length of your leader depended on the speed you’re trolling. All my leaders for kings are double hook leaders. I will also use a fillet of herring under my hoochie. I think you get about three times more hits with the herring fillet then without them.
